Speedboat

A black-hulled speedboat rendered at speed from every angle — the kind of imagery a boat builder needs long before the first hull leaves the mould.

A low, faceted speedboat running across open water in late sun: dark gloss hull, teak deck, spray off the chine and a wake that behaves like a wake. Built to show boat builders and marine start-ups what their boat can look like before it exists, and how much better it can look than a brochure photo once it does.

The challenge

A new boat has to sell before it is built. Investors, dealers and first buyers are asked to commit on the strength of drawings and a spec sheet, and even once a hull exists, a real shoot at speed means a chase boat, a camera crew, the right weather and a very large invoice. Most builders end up with a handful of flat photos that do not show what makes their design different.

The approach

The boat is one 3D scene, so every angle is available: low along the waterline, head-on at the bow, straight down from above, close on the cockpit. The water is simulated around the hull, so the bow wave, the spray and the wake respond to the boat at speed instead of being painted on afterwards. The environment — islands, other yachts, birds, a dolphin — is set dressing that can be swapped for a home harbour, a racing course or a dark studio.

Process
The result

From one model, a builder can have stills for every angle, films of the boat running at full speed, and even a three.js web experience that puts the same scene in the browser so a buyer can turn the boat around themselves. We can work from your CAD, your design drawings or a hull that is already in the water, and turn it around quickly.
