Freight Calculator needed something behind their login form. Rather than a gradient and a logo, the app opens on a container ship bow-on, moving toward the viewer on flat water under a bright sky, shot vertically so it fills a phone. The hull carries the brand, and most of the work went into treating it as a surface the identity lives on rather than a place to paste a logo.

The challenge

A login screen is the least considered part of most apps: it is a form, a gradient, and a logo, seen for four seconds before anyone stops looking. It is also the first thing every single user sees, every single time — so the question was whether it could carry the brand instead of just hosting it.

The approach

Everything is built vertical from the start, 9:16, so nothing is a cropped landscape shot. The palette comes out of the identity rather than out of a photograph: pale blue hull, terracotta containers, a high soft sky, and water calm enough to hold a clean reflection — deliberately still, because the screen sits behind a form people need to read. The wordmark was then tested on the hull in several lockups, at the size it would actually be seen at on a phone, which is the only test that matters.

The result

The lockups were delivered as a set of renders so the identity could be judged on the object it would live on, in the aspect ratio it would be seen in.
